#ICSTIDOL – Competition highlights benefits of tokenising talent

Talent sharing competition signals ICST will be a game-changer in the entertainment industry

Earlier this month, content sharing start-up ICST launched a social media competition in partnership with Starmaker app, an affiliate of American Idol. So far, 29 contestants have submitted their videos on Instagram, showcasing their enviable talents for the chance to win 100,000 Individual Content & Skill Tokens (ICST) to the estimated value of USD$5,000.

Individuals have until 30 June 2018 to submit their 5-30 second video with the hashtag #ICSTidol. Each participant is rewarded 30 ICST (for their upload, starting the ball rolling for the monetisation of talent sharing on the blockchain.

“ICST and American Idol are extremely passionate about empowering creators and giving them a platform to showcase their talents,” said the co-founder of ICST, Richard Bai. “The evolving landscape of content ownership via blockchain technology presents tremendous opportunities for talented and independent creators.”

The community will vote for the competition winner. This method of democratic engagement is a hallmark of the ICST platform to come. The protocol is currently in beta testing phase, with their ICO due to launch 21-27 June 2018.

Participants in the competition are diverse, with profiles differing in age and ethnicity, gender and style. Many of these budding artists are braving the social media space for the first time whilst others have been sharing their voices and accumulating a significant following for years. Whichever camp they fall into, the fact that they are receiving a tokenized reward for sharing their talents marks a significant turning point in the history of the music industry.

The competition provides an insight into the potential of this company to change the face of the entertainment industry for the better. Musicians will quickly realise the benefits of tokenising their shared social media content, including lower transaction costs and complete autonomy over their material and compensation. The opportunities created by this rewards based content sharing ecosystem extends to the creative sector more broadly. Dancers, gamers, photo-shopping creatives and skilled digital content developers worldwide will be able to share, sell, trace the use of their copyrighted material and get rated transparently.

The partnership with Starmaker is one of many notable affiliations, with others including American Idol & the Voice. ICST is expected to have a user base of 50 million at the time of launch.
